I have to look up the recipe and attempt to make it on my own (although I can't really keep using filet mignon cuz I'm not rich, but my taste buds seem to think so!) But if I boil the beef in the marinade slowly for a few hours it should be tender and I can just use regular beef cubes as opposed to filet mignon. I usually dont have luck with asian recipes. They never taste authentic when I make them. I follow the directions but I think that most of the recipes were written by suburban housewives in Wisconsin or something and not by someone from that ethnicity. I'm kind of at a loss here. Just wanted to give my new fave dish a shoutout cuz its probably the last time I'm gonna be buying it for a while. Back to the grind in 2010.

New Obsession, but expensive obsession
I have a new culinary obsession lately. Its this Vietnamese dish called Bo Luc Lac. Its beef in a dark flavorful brown sauce, served with lettuce, scallions and white rice. The beef is so tender, and I just found out its made from Filet Mignon (of course! *slaps forehead at my expensive tastes*). That'll explain the price. It ain't cheap. Ive eaten it a few times this past week, and several times during the summer. But I had to have it again.

this dish is delicious..but doesn't have to be expensive..we never get filet when we make our bo luc lac, in fact cheaper cuts will do just as well. Try it with a salad of watercress or your favorite greens along with tomatoes and pickled onion.
